There was a box of uninstalled parts from 80's restoration of my car and I finally identified the strange barbed staples as garnish moulding clips and found them in the Master Parts catalog pictured at top of pg 589. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/589.htm
How are these clips installed ?

Kevin, I just saw your question so I apologize for not being timely. The clips you reference snap in to holes on the top of the inner door frame to keep the garnish molding aligned and to prevent it from rotating when tightened. Attached is a picture of a 41 coupe door showing the holes. Your doors should be similar. Mike
