The hinge brace has a captive nut which slides around in its housing after deck lid has been installed resulting in some up and down movement of the lid. Wondering if this is normal. Hinge bolt hole is same size as bolt so I don't see how the shouldered hinge bolt available from Filling Station would help, unless the hinge needs to be drilled out. Anybody have experience with this?

On my 31 the shouldered bolt allows for adjustment and then can be tightened to lock it in position.

Thanks Dave. It is a 3/8" bolt. There is a 5/8" hole in the hinge bracket with the captive nut behind it. Is the shoulder on the bolt smaller than 5/8" to allow some movement?

Here is a picture, you maybe missing some of the other parts. I took these things on and off a hundred times working on lining up the lid but now unsure of the order. I think all of the washers go on the lid side but won't be positive until I try it. I am not sure on the order, maybe someone can weigh in that is sure as it will be a few weeks before I put it back on. The shoulder measures .495.

Next time down I will check for witness marks the lock washer would have had to leave.

Thanks Dave. Much appreciated.
So the hole in the hinge must be 1/2" if the shoulder is .495 right?

Yes, just the bolt goes through the hinge, then the split washer, big washer, and the serrated washer.

Dave is correct. If you barely tighten the bolt, it allows you to move the lid around some because the nut moves. When you have the lid aligned right, fully tightening the bolt pulls the big washer against the star washer which binds to the bracket and pulls the nut in locking everything in place. The lock washer keeps the shoulder bolt from loosening. Those particular star washers are very hard to find in that exact size.

Got it installed and all working as it should. Had to make my own star washers. Many thanks to everyone who replied. I'd be in a lot worse shape with this project without this site!
