I went and picked out Jane's 8th Anniversary gift . I may have outdone myself....
A 1953 Belair Convertible, owned for 40 years by a former VCCA member, it's a nice solid driver. We're looking forward to the Six Cylinder Tours next year!

Super nice ! Around 1958 I had a 53 Bel Air HT in that blue with a white top. Had 3 speed transmission. Is yours a stick or powerglide ?Loved that car ! I turned the tail lights upside down so when lite at night it gave the appearance of being lowered. Oh what you do at that age when trying to be different from your peers. Hope your wife & Abby spend many happy hours in the car (you also Bruce)
The car is a 235 hooked up to a 3 speed. Just plated, and about to head out on our first drive!
That combination of mtr & trans should be a nice improvement of the 216. Since you got the car as a anniversary gift for your wife, I assume she did the driving on first ride.
She's claiming it doesn't count as an anniversary gift, because I'm enjoying it to much. She might have a valid point...
Plates went on it today, and we took Abby out for her first spin in it. The 235 is a huge improvement. Pulls nice and strong. I live at the bottom of a valley, and the other 2 cars have to scream up the hill in second or else they bog down. Not this one! Radial tires are smooth riding too.

Really nice but I can't tell if its a 53 or 54. Photos are small. I assume owing to the testament of pulling power, it must be a 54.
54 heap better.
Come August 1st Carol and I will be celebrating our 62 anniversary. If years have anything to do with it, I should be surprised by the 53 Cadillac Convertible I don't expect.
How did you pull this off? You can't be THAT nice a guy. Wow! (no shout intended)
Enjoy,
Charlie
BTW: Just think. The rest of us out here in Chat land bet a new tie. But no, You get a stinkin; prestine Chevrolet convertible. No fair. I'm leaving the planet.
If it is a 1953 stick made i the US it will have a 235 dipper engine with a 30 pound oil pressure gauge. If the needle stays buied on top it has a different full pressure engine. If it is a Canadian car it would have been made with a full pressure engine and a 60 pound gauge. If it has hydraulic lifters it will be a Power Glide engine, full pressure 1953 or 1054.
