Interesting choices from John. The XKE has always been a favorite of mine. Except the first year for the 12 cylinder XKE was 1971. The '61- '64's had the 3.8 liter 6. That went to 4.2 liters for the '65 model year.
For me, I have to wonder what I would really do with an open checkbook. The situation is that right now I really enjoy the 3 "not essential" cars we have. A high value car no longer has the appeal it used to have. I like being able to drive any of them just about anytime or anywhere I want. Telling people about your special cars is one thing. Showing up in one is a whole different experience.
That is what makes this hobby so much fun. You can choose to play at just about any level.

John, I do appreciate it. Nothing like a 41 Cabriolet. Bruce, Well, we got to the border this morning. Canadian side wouldn't let the bus through. They had inspected the bus and found no mechanical problems, then the inspected passengers and said they looked right weird but still nothing they could hang their hat on. Then they noticed the burlap bad stuffed in the restroom in the back. They wanted us to open it. Then, wanted to know why we was carrying a bag of white feathers across their border. One of our guys let it slip that "Well, we didn't have any tar, so what's the harm." They didn't know what to think but after studying the problem for a while they decided we were up to no good and wouldn't let us cross. Made us turn around with our tails dragging behind us and with black diesel smoke a-puffing out the tail pipe and heading south. Stinkin suspicious border guards. (Just kidding. Some of our best friends are Canadian.) Peers you done lucked out. This time. We're trying to figure something out. Are too! Don't be surprised we don't come up with a better plan. Should've gotten the stinkin feathers after we crossed over the border. Yep! Rusty, You mean to tell us that if you played the lottery and won several million dollars that you would still look at that old 37 and think "Man, there ain't nothing out with four wheels on it that I wouldn't buy to join that would appeal to me? Not anything else at all? Well, I have to admire your commitment to what you have now but I wouldn't bet that you wouldn't show up at Scottsdale, AZ next time they had an auction. Come on please don't take such a high-minded position. This here survey is merely a fun thing. Is too! Got to be something out there that you always wanted but didn't get for whatever reason. Best, Charlie

Hey Charlie,
Hope you are having a good holiday. Thanks for keeping things interesting.
You make a good point about what I would really do. I would definitely add some cars. And even if they were high buck ones I would drive them whenever and wherever because I would not be worried about the loss in value.
But my Dad would be spinning in his grave!!
The thing to me is that I personally would never feel OK with spinning $7+ million for some rare Ferrari. Heck, going over $100k would give me weird feelings. I think of all the things that much money can do to help others live better lives. And I can still enjoy my life running around in "cheap" cars!
So if you insist: Porsche Boxster (2005-10) 1963 Falcon convertible (some history here) Ford Econoline Pick-up, 5 window cab (1965-67)
And don't worry! I will go to at least one of the auctions in Scottsdale this year. Just not buying this year.

Rusty, Glad you're coming around but I may have pushed you a bit too far. A Frod Falcon and a econoline. Good gracious. Can't you think of anything without going the barf bag route? The bus won't have to cross no stinkin borders to get to you. Iowa. An easy drive from anywhere in the continental US of A. And we'uns still got that sack of feathers. Do too! Mercy! Keep those car selection thoughts to yourself. You're bordering on inciting a riot. Well, not, but you know what I mean. If you wake up and see something burning in your front yard, it won't be no cross but may be a falcon. Feathers and all. I hope you have a great New Years and enjoy the trip to Scottsdale. I wish I could go. I've always wanted to but just too far. Maybe if I were to play the lottery and win. Maybe then. Well, then for sure. Best and keep warm, Charlie

Charlie... I know Carl. He's the guy at the border on Thursday mornings. I told him to look out for a guy with feathers, tar, or anyone that smelled of chickens. I don't know what you do with those things down there anyway. We use them to pave our highways and stuff our pillows. I've been on a few of your roads down there. You'd be doing a few states a favour if you just used the pot of tar on the roads on the way home. (I'm talking to you, NY and Michigan!!) Just don't drag your tail in it on the way...

Rusty, I have noted your choices. All good ones except that Hudson. Now that right there is strange. Why a 1951 and why a 4Dr? Bet you saw that movie "Driving Ms Daisy" and can't get over how nice that old Hudson looked. I don't know if the one in the film was a hornet or not but ... whatever. Please tell us what in the world is the connection for that choice. I, for one, would really like to know. Would too! You feeling alright? Best, Charlie BTW: The Hornet had a really strong six cylinder installed and were a terror on the race tracks .

For me Charlie first would be any straight eight GM convertible made just before the V-eights came out. Second a '41 Caddy series 62with the 3 piece rear window and lastly a '60s Chevy\gmc1\2 ton without the solid front axle.

I have always liked the styling of the 1951-'53 Hornet in the 4 door body, somewhat remenicient of the old aerodynamic diesel locomotives, also the legendary Hudson round track racing days. I can't afford one so I did the next best thing and bought a 1950 Chevy Fleetline 4dr.

My first "modern" car was a 49 Fleetline 4 dr (fast back). Before that I had a 1930 Dodge coupe out of a grove and a 1932 Chevy coupe that I did drive but the '49 was the first real over the road daily driver. LOL I wish I had all 3 of them back!
