Doing a frame off restoration and it's time to think about painting. I was wondering if anyone out there can give a step by step and if possible hours involved. Have done a little research and it seems these things can cost #$%^%#$ of a lot of $$$. A paint shop has been recommended but this guy doesn't usually have to deal with people who ask 'how much?' The thought of giving him the car (blank check) pretty scary! Anyway if anyone out there ..... the car i a 65 impala ss convertible
thanks
paul

Basically your question is impossible to answer without seeing the car in person. I'd figure that's why no replies in over a week.

All I can tell you is you could be anywhere from $3500, or maybe even more, on up to $10k and, again, maybe even more. There's simply more to it than just 'the paint job.' Actually most folks will tell you shooting the paint isn't the big deal anyway.

The big deal is the preparation.

I don't suppose I've helped much. But like I said, without seeing the car it's basically impossible to come up with a figure.

Sorry.....

Bill.

In my area, show quality paint jobs run from about $8,000 and up, with the normal being between $10,000 and $12,000. And, some paint jobs (depending upon what you want) run has high as $20,000.

Skippy,

I didn't notice that he was talking about 'show' paint. But I suppose if he's talking about 'frame off' he could be.

It seems pretty ridiculous to me to spend that kind of $$ and then sit and watch the car. I'd get a 'nice' paint job instead and drive the car / have 'fun' with it!!!

Bill.
