I need info on re-filling the power top pump unit for a '67 Impala. Does it use power steering fluid? When I opened the resevoir cup, it was full, but most of the translucent lines appeared to be empty. I can barely raise or lower the top now. What do I do?

At least three fluids are typically used in power top systems. Automatic transmission or power steering fluid; hydraulic oil; brake fluid. Depends on the year and who worked on it last. I would caution not to use brake fluid as it will damage any paint it gets on. The 1968 Fisher Body Service manual calls for "hydraulic fluid" and "type "A" transmission fluid". If you use a hose screwed into the filler plug hole and the end submerged in a container with ATF (glass jar is best) then work the top up and down the air will get bleed out and the pump filled with fluid. It takes several cycles to purge the air. Make sure that the end of the hose stays below the liquid surface.
