My husband has been restoring a 64 chevy impala ss. It exterior color is light blue. It originally came with dark blue carpet and light blue seats. He had started to restore it about 10-12 years ago and ordered the carpet. It was dark blue like the original. He now is at the point where he ordered the interior upholstery and we went with white and he ordered what he thought was dark blue for the carpet and part of the seats. When he ordered the seats and new carpet(we didn't think the carpet we ordered years ago would now match) it was medium blue not the dark blue and the catalog only lists medium blue. My husband believes that dark blue for the carpet was a color option. Can anyone tells us if this is correct/incorrect?

Hi meg,

What we really need to answer your question is the color RPO Number as listed on the data tag. It may be 916. If so, the exterior was Daytona Blue, the interior was 831 Blue (medium/light blue-my defination).

This information is taken from the 1964 Dealer's Album. Information is for the Impala SS Coupe or Impala SS Convertible.

Ray,
Thank you for responding to my question. I had to get the numbers from my husband, that is why it is taken me so long to respond. The exterior paint color is 912. That is a silver blue and an original color. The interior upholstery package that we received is 831 and is called medium blue. The number on the carpet that we ordered 10-12 years ago we think is 812. That is the number on the box. That color is what I would call a navy blue. Do you have anything with blue car color combinations for 64 chevys that you could fax me? If so, our fax number is (563) 659-3099.

Hi meg,

RPO NO. 912 is Silver blue exterior and 831 blue interior. However, it has a second color: Black. This is for the instrument panel, steering wheel and the carpeting.

Therefore, the correct color for the carpeting is BLACK.

The information I have is not in a format that could be FAXED. When I get some time I will email you more information.

Hi..just to add my two cents,,I serviced these cars out when new and if I remember you could order about any interior color with any exterior color,,in SS cars the common was black interior but have seen red and white all of what I remember the interior was all the same color the dash and carpet were not different if you had red all was red if silver all was silver and I don,t remember seeing seats with two colors in the covering all black or red or white they offered many colors but they did not do custom interiors for each person other than what was offered from production,if you had white seats I don,t remember white carpet so maybe you could get a carpet color of choice but most was all same color,,I do remember some one ordered an SS car with a 6 cyl 3 speed and it came with a colum shift and a center consol and the customer was not happy as he wanted a floor shift in the consol,,,for what it was worth...doc

Hi meg,

I have just sent you an email with copies of the pages from the 1964 Dealers Album that deals with colors for both exterior and interior. It defines all the color RPOs that were available from the factory.

Please note that this does NOT address any special orders that were available. Nothing in the Album indicates that anything other than factory specified combinations were available.

Thanks Ray and Doc for your responses!
Ray, I emailed you back. Now we know that 831 blue is an original interior color and that the navy blue is not. This is a great site!
