As a companion discussion to the one on when factory assembled 4x4 trucks were introduced, I am asking when extended and crew cab pickups were produced. I know there are some that were modified by outside companies. Those are worthy of note also. The first production of those larger cabs deserves to be better understood and documented.

I agree with Gene who posted in the 4x4 thread that 1973 is the earliest I can remember of factory crew cab Chevrolet trucks. There are a some earlier but think they had modifications by non GM companies and not at a GM factory. There was a 60s crew cab in Kansas. Can't remember for sure what year or who did the modifications. Had a few friends that had mid-70s Crew Cab duelies. Were all 1 ton, most with big block engines.

Looking at GMC 1973 was also the first year for their crew cab. Was called a 3+3 crew cab (3 passengers in front and 3 in rear.)
I remember seeing some older crew cabs at some meets. They were not factory made. For 1975 I see a 3/4 ton Bonus cab and a Crew cab listed. Both had a 164 1/2 " wheel base. The Bonus cab was less expensive and lighter.?
