I have began to look at interior options for my 1938 Chevy. I spoke to a few local interior shops and they suggested buying a kit, then have them install it. This is not a perfect car but, it has been in the family for may years and we have done the restoration fairly correct to original. What can everyone tell me about LeBaron Bonney? Good results, other suggestions? Thanks!

I am in the process of installing part of there kit in my 47 Fleetline. I am happy with the quality of the kit, I ordered headlineer door panel and rear carpet, some parts were back ordered but I now have everything I ordered. Whenever I called about anything they were always helpful. The reason I don't the seat kit is they had a problem with the stripped material fading real bad. Last time I talked to them they though they may have soon in the near future.

i was extremely well pleased with the quality of their interior kits when i did our 31 cabriolet and recovered the seats in our 30 roadster pickup. their instructions that came with the kit were educational. no shortages with my dealings with them. prices a bit high but "ya git what ya pay fer". mike

Tonysrodz Try and send a PM to Chistech I think he is an authorized installer and could help you with questions you might have.

Tonysrodz I installed a complete interior kit from LeBaron Bonney in 1999 in my 1941 Special Deluxe 5 pass Coupe. It was easy to install and the instructions were great. My interior looks like their ad in the G&D. I highly recommend a complete kit. A bit pricey but it will look good and original. My '41 is restored to original. JIM

I got a kit when they were Hampton Coach. I visited the plant in Hampton New Hampshire before purchasing. Every was done to precision. I do upholstering and install the kit myself. Very pleased and it is holding up well. Go for it!!!!!

just today i installed a headliner in our 39 sedan delivery. it could be a little tighter, i.e., distance of vinyl between bow attaching flaps a little too wide. if anyone needs name of headline supplier, send me a PM. it was not hampton/labonney. mike

I think you should be able to shrink it by spraying some water on it and using a hair dryer. Do some googling on what people have done to shrink fabric and you could end up with a really good fit. Could be different if it is 100% vinyl though...

As Andy said, I am an authorized HC/LB installer. I can usually save people a few dollars if I let HC know they’re my customer before they call in. Sale goes through me and I pass on my discount if you let me know exactly what you’ve decided on. I only do this for VCCA members.

Thanks for all of the responses. That is the info I was hoping for. I assume all of these cars just had a rubber mat for the floor?

I recently ordered a pretty complete kit for my 36 standard 4 dr sport sedan from LB. I was able to get in on the end of year 15% discount, but still added up to a pretty penny. This car was gutted when I got it, nothing in the interior. LB was very helpful. They are sending me a seat kit that will fit a Glide Engineering SP-40 seat that I ordered for the front. And they are sending me extra material for the back seat, that I will need to make if I cannot find one. I am sure it will be a while before I see it, but I am in no rush. Still need to install the motor and a bunch of other stuff.
I will pass on how the install goes in the interior forum.

Love my LeBaron Bonney Interior Kit for my 1929 4 Door. If you work with Ted (Chistech) get a sample kit if they have one, this gives you all the fabric colors, materials, etc for that make model year. i have the kit for my car. for mine they were not JUST color Swatches they were actual pieces of actual material in the kit !!

Ted installed it all for me, got the interior kit, carpet, headliner, and vinyl roof kit. I am very happy with the end results !! Ted is da Man !!

Here are some pictures of the work Ted did, if you scroll down to the bottom of the album, you will see the interior and the roof: Chistech Restoration

I remember Ted's sequence of pics doing your car, I am not surprised you are happy with it.

I have heard that their convertible (cabriolet) tops are a problem to install in that they are not the right dimensions.

Anyone else have a problem with their top kik>

Thanks,

I watched a Hampton Coach former employee install a top and it was quite fascinating. Besides the usual pulling he was armed with a steamer and a blower dryer. When he first started I thought he would not be able to fit it but when done it was perfect.

I received my LB complete kit for my 36 standard 4 Dr. It looks very nice but it is a bit overwhelming, like another jigsaw puzzle, lots of parts, but the instructions I got seem pretty good. I will not be installing it very soon, maybe next month. But one problem I noticed is the rear door panel holes do not line up with the window regulator and door handle. One the door they are about 6 and 5/8 inches apart and the panels are about 5 and a half inches apart. I did specify that I had steel doors. Called and left a message yesterday, hope to hear from them soon.

Before I purchased a complete LB kit for the '51 that Brewster now has, I asked a local upholstery shop owner if he would install it. He replied that he had never had good luck with kits, but would do his best. When I went to pick up the car, he said that he had never seen a kit so exact in its measurements, and of such excellent quality. That was over 30 years ago, and it is still in excellent condition.

Does anyone have any insight on the correct floor covering? Did any of these 38 chevys come with carpet or just a rubber mat. I got my sample kit from LB this week. Looks very nice !

Thanks Again!

If you are refering to the front floor mat they were all rubber. The Master Deluxe had brown colored and the cheaper Master had black.
The rear floor was carpet.
The First Chevrolet to have full front carpet was the 1950 Bel Air hardtop.

Thanks,

I will be purchasing and installing a cabriolet top from LB/HC on my 32’ Olds in the upcoming future. I will post the installation here on the forum as it is the same roof as the 31-32’ Chevy cabriolets. I’m currently helping to install what is considered one of the best brands of convertible tops, Kee brand, on a 68’ Camaro. I can tell you it’s a chore and it has plenty of wrinkles and areas that need working out either by refastening or with the steamer. Convertible roofs are not fun no matter who makes them. They are a lot of work ONLY if you want them perfect but that of course is how they should be done.
