My master cylinder is leaking fluid .it looks like it coming around the push rod. I not removed it yet, i have a few question. like to order a kit,,,,,trouble is one kit say 7/8" bore other one say 1" bore. What is the standard size?? ( I can measure it after i got it off, like to have right kit so i can put it back on.)

My car is a power glide. the master cylinder only has one hole for the brake arm. standard shift has two one for brake and one for clutch.. I'm wonder if standard one could be used if the brake arm is put in the bottom hole..Has anybody tried this????( I may have to replace it if in bad shape)

The 1936-1952 cars had a 1" bore master cylinder. The 1953-1954 had a 7/8".
The casting number (larged raised numbers on the side) is 5454135 for the '53-'54 P.G. M/Cyl. This is assuming it is a GM Delco part.
If a kit is all you need it is simple. Often on a unit that old has pits on the bottom (lower) portion of the bore that will not be removed by honing. Then the alterative is either having it sleved with a stainless sleve or a new master cylinder.
If you do need a new 1953-54 P.G master cylinder I have a new GM Delco that I will sell for $125.00 with shipping included at that price (a good deal).. I would recommend replacing the rubbber parts in it with due due to age and better materials available today.

Ooops forgot to say mine is a 1954 power glide
, thanks for the reply,may take you up on that master cyl. that is a good deal. i,ll check mine out first...I know this is not a easy job without a lift.

I checked your profile and assumed that it was a '54 Power Glide.
The removal can be done by laying under the car, the trick is learning where to reach through to get at the bolts, etc.
