Do they have tube shocks or are the shocks built in the upper control arm,I had a 53 Olds that had them and might look into trying to find a 46 to 48 coupe if they have tube shocks.

They are built into the upper control arm. They can be rebuilt, but it is a costly excersise. I added external tube shocks, as my originals leaked like sieves!

The 1949 cars (and 1950 small trucks) were the first to have tube front shocks as well as the 1939 and 1940 leaf front spring cars.

I got lucky and traded for a NOS pair for the Olds and not wanting to deal with them again,if I do get one its going to be modified with newer drivetrain so newer suspension would be in order too. I am wanting to build one to go to long distance shows so maybe start with a newer car that has tube shocks.
