Just purchased the car which appears original- will retain as much as I can but would like to upgrade the ignition to Petronix and improve front brakes - any thoughts and or part supply source would be appreciated

Congratulations you now have one of the most popular prewar Chevrolets.

Save your money. Don't believe what many local "experts" will tell you.

Petronix ignition systems are not as reliable as other solid state ignition systems. Some of us have had them fail without any warning. I am one of them. Walking or calling AAA is not fun. The old point systems will get as much horsepower as the engine will provide and are repairable on the roadside.

If you have high friction (woven) linings and properly adjusted brakes the car will stop as well as the tires will permit. I have locked up all 4 wheels on dry pavement.

Ask all the questions and we will try to help. Joining the VCCA, sponsoring club, is well worth the money.

I am another one that had the Petronix fail and it failed big time! Save your money and stay with the reliable point system as Chipper suggested.
