Any ideas where I might purchase a speedometer for a 25 Superior K Sedan. I was told the original one was a type on made in 25. Repair is an option but expensive I'm sure. Would another model year or type be compatible that others have used? Thanks in advance.

Ah, a 1925 speedometer. I will assure you that won't be the easiest thing you will ever search for. I've been told that even if you find one the chances of it working will be almost nill. The pot metal just did not cooperate with father time.

I too was in the hunt for a short period, I chose to go with a 1927 speedometer instead. It mounts up well, just need to make some changes to the frame that holds it and you'll need a different cable.

Check with the user Bluezone, I believe he may have one that he might sell, don't expect it to be cheap though. As with most items on these cars it comes with a price.

Good luck

You will probably find that a repair would be the cheaper option than buying another 1925 speedometer.....IF you can find one......and IF it works.

Here's an interesting read about rebuilding these speedos:

The '25 and '26 are almost exactly the same. I think one had an aluminum face plate while the other had nickel plating. The hook up was the same and '27 had an angled hook up.

The problem with the 25-6 speedometers is that the structure that holds the number wheel is pot metal. In almost every case this structure is fractured and not useable. I have not found a solution to this problem. If you can lay your hands on an AC speedometer it is possible to recondition. The AC is displayed on the face of the speedometer. Depending on what you find the speedometer end of the drive cable may or may not need attention.

Oldsmobile(and probably a lot of cars from the same era)used the same style/type of speedometer as the '25 Chevs.

Cheers, Dean

If I went through the process again I would put a drop of super glue on each end of the number strips for the speedo drums as one peeled off after a few years.

Cheers

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

If someone can come up with a new superstructure for the 25 & 26, there is a market for them.

Somebody with a 3D scanner and a 3D printer could reproduce that part.
