Not doing a frame off, but would like to paint undercarriage as i go along. Was undercarriage parts painted like rear end, drive shaft, linkage, etc... If undercarriage equipment was painted, what colors should they be? I did search forum , but only found undercarriage body paint.
Thanks

I think Gene has posted that all items were painted flat or simigloss black (can't remember which) except for the transmission which was unpainted.

Others will offer more and better information.

So the entire undercarriage is either gloss black, flat black or bare metal on my 38?

The frame was dipped in black paint. It was a low-medium gloss. Definitely not high gloss. The paint was low quality so deteriorated fairly quickly. There were also drips and runs. Major items added to the frame like larger suspension parts were also dipped. Many smaller parts were not painted or plated. Restorers generally paint the parts to prevent nearly immediate rusting.
