I thought I found an answer to this once, but can't find it again.
What are you using? It would seem to need something that is soft enough it won't cavitate, but thick enough won't leak out either.

John Deere Corn Head Grease seems to be one of the favourites. Try a search just for this and you might find some other options.

"Penrite Steering Box Lube" is another possibility. It's available at restorationstuff.com if you happen to be in the USA.

I found various EP lubes in 0 and 00 weight. Cornhead is 0 weight, the pennrite stuff in 00.
I bought some Champion 00. Comes in a 1 qt squeeze bottle. I can just squeeze it into the box after unscrewing the Alemite filling, no need to get it into some sort of grease gun. I also put it in the steering box of my '61 Corvette, which is worm and roller design as well.
Extreme pressure offers the same protection whether 0 or 00 weight, the 00 weight just flows easier, but is still not runny and won't run out.

Actually, one could make a really good steering box lube by mixing the 00 stuff with a #1 moly disulfide grease.

GM sold such a steering gear grease in a tube in the '60's and '70's.
Was discontinued due to the very few standard steering cars sold after that time.
