My 1917 built in 18 touring car needs king pins and tie rod ends. I've never driven it but looking at the play in the front I can't think it would be any fun to drive. Looking for suggestions, I'm having the engine re-babbited and thinking I may just take the axle off and take it to that shop

Doesn't make much difference but a '17 would not have been built in '18. My '18 490 was built in 1917 but clearly is an '18 model as it has Remy electricals (except for Connecticut switches on dash). Also the '18 steering column.

My vehicle was titled as a 17 but vin clearly shows it was built in 18, also have a 25 Buick that was ordered in 24 by the paperwork, every DMV back then must have had no standard. Anyway just wondering if anyone knows of a king pin set and tie rod ends that will fit or can be modified to fit?

you may be able to use model t ford spindle bolts for the king pins, check with Snyder's model tee ford parts, and have them measure the diameter to compare with the 490 spindle bolts.

Yes, you can use both Ford Model T king pins, tie rods and their bushings on the 490. You will also want to pick up the king pin reamer kit to ream out the bushings after they are installed. Hope this helps,

I see they make 2 sets for the model T. Is one an easier fit than the other for a 1918 490?

The king pins and tie rod pins are all the same size re T's. There is some differences in how they are oiled. The later ones used flip top oilers the earlier ones used twist top oilers.

Thanks for the info, got the king pins and tie rod bolts changed, have a little slack in the steering gear box, my next project. It's great to get some advice, makes for a braver mechanic
