Hi Greg, I have a 1916 owners manual which I picked up off ebay, have seen a few on there. so you should check there often.You will probably need a copy of the 1919 repair manual as well. welcome to the 490 forum. click on this link to go to a reprint copy. 1916 owners manual

The 1916 model four ninety has a choke ring located to the right of the steering column on the dash panel. The owners manual calls it a carburettor adjusting rod. Say to pull out the rod in cold weather to help starting a cold engine. Then push back in when engine is warm

I only have a 1920 four ninety which is in pieces, there is only a few 1916 four ninety cars here is Australia.

Hi Greg
I have an early 1916 Chev 490 Roadster which I restored a few years ago and one of the best things is that when the car is all apart there are lots of places where dates are stamped all over parts of the car. Besides the engine castings there are dates on the gearbox housing that are stamped, front axle, rear springs and on the back of the steering box that mounts to the timber firewall. The early 1916 Chev 490's also had different features than those in the second half of the year, front springs, generator, chassis, no oil gauge no speedo, etc. All of these were before the first 40,000 cars.
