I have assm line correct engine mounts for my 1969 SS396 Camaro that I would like to have re-done. Steele doesn't do them. Does anybody know of other re-volcanizing companies?
Thank you, Joe

What is wrong with the new reproductions from Rick's Camaro parts?

Although all of those mount would mount the engine, I'm looking to use the original mounts for this car. None are made like the original. If I can't redo the originals I will cross that bridge at that time. Thanks Gene...Joe

Chevrolet had a large recall on the original engine mounts during the '66 to '69 years for the V8 engines and replaced them with an interlock style mount. Hopefully you have the interlock style mount system and not the original pad style because they could become deadly when the rubber bonding failed.

The recall did not replaces the mounts but added a bracket to the left exhaust manifold and a cable went around the upper control arm shaft. I don't remember doing any Camaro's. Did lots of full size cars, they had the solid throttle rod that would bind and lock the throttle when the mount broke.

Well, you're both correct. My car was finished August 28th 1969 which means my car already had a safety device mounted between the LH engine mount & the block. I think that became effective in June...Joe

on the 58-67(and probably later c-3 corvettes) the original mounts allowed the use of original UNMODIFIED spark plug shielding. if one replaced the original motor mounts with then currently available service replacement mounts, one had to butcher the original spark plug shielding for fitment. in the 80's and 90's, there were no replacement motor mounts that allowed for the use of unmodified (butchered) plug wire shielding. by about the mid 90's, a repo motor mount became available that was configured such that the shielding didn't need butchered. the replacement mounts , although i'm not certain as to their identical configuration with original mounts, at least disallowed for the butchering process of the plug wire shielding. i've been getting these repo mounts for corvettes i've restored from Long Island Corvettes. sorry but i've never had a long island mount laid alongside an original 58-67 plus mount for comparison. however, when the long island mounts have been utilized, the NCRS judges haven't deducted originality points(primarily because we judges are getting too old to crawl under the vets for close-up inspections). i know of nobody that re-rubbers original mounts. and i've removed a ton of originals that have split in two. when it comes to judging mounts, i'd much prefer to se an aftermarket mount with a butchered plug wire shielding than the "ralph nader" induced , GM bandaid solution to their problem motor mount. mike
