Please tell me if a 235 engine needs a "breathable" oil filler cap on the valve cover...

It depends on the year. The 1954 and prior have slots in the valve cover to draw in fresh air. The 1955 and up had a breather type oil cap. The breathable oil cap was an improvement as it had an oil mesh to catch the dust.

Thank you...I have put a '61 235 engine in my '48 Sedan and the fellow working with me on the car put a non-breathable cap on the valve colors. I argued for a breathable cap but he insisted it did not need one. I will get a breathable one tomorrow...MH
