Hello Everyone,
I have been asked to work on a GMC 1 1/2 truck. I am looking for the appropriate wiring diagram for this truck. I have not seen any reference to GMC's on our site.
Are the GMC and the Chevrolet one in the same for this size vehicle??

Go to the "oldgmctrucks.com" site. Perhaps there will be something there.

I believe that the Small 1937 GMCs used a positive ground Oldsmobile engine. In 1938 they used a smaller Pontiac engine.
This would require hooking the amp meter up reverse as you would a Chevy. The GMC amp meter looked identical except the GMC gauge went to 30 and the Chevy was 20 amp (with base generator**). The main difference would be the connection of the GMC Ammeter, Generator, Battery, and Starter on left instead of right side as on the Chevy.
Smaller GMCs shared the "Martin-Parry" body with Chevy. The Larger GMCs used a different bodies. Using different body and axle configurations, GMCs were rated different than Chevys. Canada (Europe & Australia) also had different ratings.

**The base Generator for a Chevy was a 3 brush, 17 Amp generator with a cut out. There were various options including a 12 volt Alternator, that was called an AC-generator. See web page <http://home.znet.com/c1937/act.htm>.
Good luck, Lou

Hello Chevgene,
I checked that site, but the listing service didn't go old enough or had specific information on the wiring.

Hello Lou,
This particular vehicle has a flat head six. The original carb is long gone and it currently has a Carter WA-1 carb. The carb I'm awaiting the rebuild kit and float. I have to replace the ignition switch and possibly run new wires to the coil as it is being jumped from the starter lug.
Are there any identifying marks on the flat head six of this era to determine what it Is?

I'm pretty sure that is an Olds engine. I can check my Thompson or McQuay-Norris catalogs to be sure.

Does the engine have two cylinder heads or one? If one likely an Olds, if two then Pontiac.

1932 was the last Pontiac engine with split heads.
In 1937 the small GMC used an Oldsmobile 6 cylinder engine.

The engine should be a 230 Olds flat head. Jim Carter has a repo owners manual for a 1937 GMC which shows the wiring diagram. The 100 watt generator was negative ground, the 200 generator was positive ground. The model of the truck is either a T-16 or T-18. What is the wheel base?

Hello Guys,
I apologize for this post veering off from my original question, it appears we have an identity crisis with this truck.
What is considered a "small " GMC?
This particular vehicle is a one & half ton truck with full running boards, and if memory serves me, it has 5 wood benches behind the drivers seat. The engine is a single head, flat head six.
I will call the owner to get more info.
My contact to the truck sent me a pick of the i.d. plate.
It is a T 16 A. 11,000 straight rating.
I will know the wheel base tomorrow.

A T16A a 1937 1 1/2 ton truck. Wheel base could be 108 or 136 inches.
That is a basic 1937 Olds engine with a slightly lowered compression ratio. It probably started life being a chassis and cab.

The only smaller model was a 1/2 ton truck, larger a 3 ton.

Hello Chevgene,
The wheel base of the truck was measured at 135". Give or take, it is probably 136".

Now that we have established it's identity, back to the original question.

Where can I find a wiring diagram? Would I be able to get it from the VCCA library?
