By golly, we are being asked to stroll down the catwalk for our adoring fans. Imagine that, a prestigious car show (Antique Autos in History Park) is featuring pre-1946 workhorse trucks!! Their official theme for this year is "Trucks, the Workhorse of the 20th Century".
My engin' oil just gets all warm and cozy just thinkin' about it! Dean 'n me attended this show a couple of years ago and it was a blast! See our pic below.
The show will be on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in San Jose, CA. Admission for us (the trucks - okay, cars and our peeps too) is free. The general public has to pay $5 to see our smug mugs. More info is in their announcement: Antique Autos in History Park info
So, here's the plan. Tell your caretakers to drive, trailer, or drag your big rear end to this show so we can put on a GREAT display of early Chevy and GMC technology. After all, the show is sponsored by a F**d club, so we REALLY need to blow their socks off!
Picture these trucks lined up together:
Ed Archer's 1924 Model H 1 ton flatbed George Childs' 1925 1/2 ton Canopy Express Herb Sullivan's 1926 roadster pickup Kelly Silva's 1926 Model X 1 ton flatbed Dean Meltz' 1927 Model LM 1 ton cattle truck Mike Quezada's 1928 Model LO 1 ton Canopy Express Ray Morey's 1928 Model LP 1 ton grain truck David Duncan's 1929 Model LC 1/2 ton Canopy Express fruit and vegetable truck Dan and Kaydene O'Day's 1931 pickup Perk and Joyce Perkins' 1934 pickup Lou McMillan's 1937 something (he has quite a collection to choose from!) Hal and Karen Chase's 1936 pickup Gil and Dorothy Castro's 1937 pickup
Shake off the cobwebs and join us!!! It'll be AWESOME! Spread the word!
Be there or be square!

There is no registration, so I guess it is up to the knowledge of the guys at the gate. Since they are mostly F**d club folks, you could probably lie your way in, but the Chevy guys inside might heckle you a bit.

I'm interested in knowing how to contact Hal and Karen Chase since they have a '36 pickup also. Would you be willing to give them my email address: raywaldbaum@gmail.com.
I have no trailer and driving a '36 on the freeway from Santa Rose to San Jose and back in one day is probably a little too much. It sounds like a great event though.
I actually drove this same '36 from Southern California to the 1976 VCCA National Meet in Colorado Springs but I was a kid of 32 then, not an old man.
Regarding the event on 9/9, one option is to drive down to my house in San Leandro the day before, spend the night at the Marina Inn (3 miles from us) and caravan with us to the show in the morning. You are welcome to leave your pickup at our place for the night and I'll give you a ride to and from the motel.
If you didn't want to drive all the way back to Santa Rose the night after the show, you could follow us back to San Leandro and spend that night too in the motel and drive the rest of the way to Santa Rosa the next day.
Cheers, Dean
P.S. - The only time you are too old to do something is when you are dead.

After close to one year of being under the knife, Lurch is still in intensive care after his heart (engine) transplant. Although he has been stitched back together, he still needs a lot of TLC before he can go on field trips. It's the little things (like the engine not running yet) that are keeping him under the doctor's care.
Soooo, he won't make an appearance at the show this coming Saturday. ;-(
Justin and I will be there though, so hopefully we'll see you there! There is usually a good VCCA turnout for this show.
We are driving down from San Leandro to San Jose early in the morning, so if you want to caravan with us, send me an email at

The rebuild is further along than my documenting of it. Things are looking good, but time just ran out to get Lurch to this show.
My next target is to take him to the Ironstone Concours D'Elegance in Murphys, CA on September 23rd. This is a wonderful show if you are in the area. Go here for more info: http://www.ironstoneconcours.org/

Well, the weather was beautiful and the show was fantastic!
Ed and Karen Archer, my son Josh and I, and Mike Quezada drove our old Chevy trucks from Hayward to San Jose and back again (approx. 80 miles).
As advertised, the featured vehicles were Working Trucks and the Chevys made a great display. On hand were:
Ed Archer's 1924 Model H 1 ton flatbed (with his yellow racer on top) Dean Meltz' 1928 Model AB Canopy Express Mike Quezada's 1928 Model LO 1 ton Canopy Express Ray Morey's 1928 Model LP 1 ton grain truck Lou McMillan's 1938 Screenside Canopy Express Gil and Dorothy Castro's 1937 pickup 1940 Chevy pickup owned by History Park
Altogether, there were 151 pre-1946 vehicles on display.
A local guy that makes videos was there and here is his view of the show. Yours truly enters the picture after 8 minutes or so.
Cheers, Dean
