Helping my friend with his '54 3100 4 speed pickup. It has what appears to be the original Rochester Model B manual choke carburetor.
Was there an insulator between the carburetor and the intake manifold on this engine originally?
The reason for the question is that someone added an extension to the vertical rod that connects the bell crank on the block to the throttle lever on the carburetor. This short piece appears to be a part of a throttle rod that is welded to the original rod one and has the connecting bend about 1" higher than the original. That height difference is about the thickness of the insulator.
Thanks for the help!

YES, and the insulator (readilly available) must be used under a Rochester carburetor as there is a vaccumm port under the carb. base that must be exposed to the vaccumm

Thanks Gene!
There is an insulator installed now and the engine runs well.
So now we need to figure out what linkage should really be there. This one is somewhat complicated by the fact that he has a Fenton split exhaust on it. The outlet that attaches to the port between #4 and #5 appears to interfere with the original linkage travel.

The outlet that attaches to the port between #4 and #5 appears to interfere with the original linkage travel. There is a new linkage kit that is specifically designed to fix that problem. I don't believe he has dual carbs.

That is correct. The truck has a single Rochester B carb on a stock intake manifold.
