Hi first time one here. So I 1946 Chevy coupe 235 3 speed on the tree. It was jumping out of high gear, So I took of the shifter cover assembly and there was about 1/16" to 1/18" we wear on the shifting fork. Had it welded and machine, instulled it three times and have the same problem put it in reverse ant it binds up but it seams to work in second and third and then can't get neutral. Need help thanks

Maybe not getting the first & reverse fork in right. Put the gears in neutral and the side cover in neutral. carefully slid the cover on, watching to make sure both forks are in there grove.

There is a grove for it. If the side cover and the transmission are both in neutral it should line up together.

Bowie, Here is a previous post that may help diagnose your problem. Unfortunately, the pictures have been removed by Photobucket. Make sure you look at both page 1 and 2 on this post. Double Clutching and grinding gears - 40 transmission Here is an album of pictures from my Google site. If you can not access them then give me your email address and I will forward them. https://photos.app.goo.gl/cZZkavSr4i2w6sd33Good luck, Mike P.S. Try doing a SEARCH of our old posts to see if you can find more transmission info.
