Hi guys, been a while since I posted here, not much going on. But that changed on the Memorial day weekend. We bought another Chevy!
A friend send me a Sacramento Craig's list ad and I immediately recognized the car as one I have followed on the internet since it sold at a Mecum auction in Indianapolis, May of 2011. It turned up in Texas at the Mecum Dallas auction Sept of 2013 and didn't meet reserve. In 2015 it was on a consignment lot in Dallas all summer...I made an offer that was refused and forgot about it. Then last March it was for sale again at a different lot in Dallas. Another lower offer was refused. But it sold to a buyer who had it shipped to Yuba City, CA. 50 miles from home! what are the odds?
After a thorough inspection I bailed him out for what I had offered the Texas dealer.

The paint and body are excellent on a older body-on restoration. So far no buyers remorse, I've been tinkering on it the past month. Two shows so far and two more this weekend.

So do I need another yellow convertible? not really but its fun comparing the two. Ten years apart, so different yet the same.

Well Bruce is right Photobucket no longer works so you'll have to imagine a Yellow 51 with a black top and interior.

Beautiful purchase! I was dreaming about that car after seeing the listing. I'm glad it's gone to a great VCCA member!


Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet.

Thanks Brewster, I'll take good care of it...I've started returning it to a more original condition, removed the split manifold and dual glass-packs, painted the chrome valve cover and added a butterfly wheel that I bought in 2010 just in case I ever found a 51 convertible.
I deleted my avatar before Photobucket does. I've been wanting to change it anyway.

Sure does look great, and the right color also. Details like engine, drive train etc???

Hi Gene, it still has the original drive train, 235 and powerglide. The Texas owner had the transmission rebuilt in 2013 and when I has the valve cover off engine looked fresh with new rockers and shafts. My first tank of gas delivered 9 MPG so I've got to work on that. Coincidentally it has the Inter-Line oil filter attached to the oil distributer that was discussed here recently. I would have never known what it was.

I'm hoping someone remembers the car prior to the 2011 sale. All I know is it was built in Janesville, September of 1951. The DOT code on tires is the 40th week of 1991, probably when it was restored. I think it was a nice car then as it still has original rockers and floors.

We installed all Innerline filters in 1950 and 1951 at the dealership I worked at. Other than being incorrect for judging I would leve well enough alone. It is always nice to have an incorrect feature to see if the judges notice.
If you do replace the tires note that a convertible with Power Glide used 7.10X15 size due to weighing more than any other body style.
The car must have been sold new in the upper mid west area to have been assembled in Janesville. All convertible bodies were made at the Lansing fisher Body plant.

Whoever restored it knew the tire size as it had 5 matching 7:10x15 with hardly any wear. I have replaced the four on the ground with BFG Silvertowns to match the spare. I'll mount the old tires on the Suburban as an improvement to the 6:70 blackwalls now on it.
I knew about Lansing, the cowl tag shows it to be the 18,047th body of 20,172 built a late build.

Being a late model (last were made in Nov early
dec.) the floor covering should/would be all rubber with wide ribs like a 1952. The early had rubber mats with the simulated carpet inserts in the front and real carpet in the rear.
There were a number of running changed during 1951 production.
