How fast do you drive your '51 Power Glide on the open road. It has been almost 40 years since I drove one and I am trying to determine if I should drive ours or trailer it to the Six Cylinder tour from Ohio to Denver, PA.

I have driven my 53 PG car on the interstate from CT to PA for an eastern 6 cylinder tour and had no trouble at 55 to 60 mph. The car ran great and I even had it up to 70 going down a hill with a tail wind! rolllaugh

Cheers,

Dave

I drive my '51 PG 55-60 as cruising speed. Occasionally get to 65 but it uses more oil if I push it too hard.

I drove my 1950 PG between 65 to 70 mph going to meets an tours. 65 is a very comfortable speed and the emgine RPMS is under 3000 with the 3.55 gears.

I drive my 51 60-65 on the freeway when I have to but I would rather take secondary roads and drive 55. That's probably because I could use a new idler arm bushing. With new Coker radials it tracks really nice but when you get up around 65 it's time to pay (more) attention. And, as someone else said, I start using (losing) oil. Don't know where it goes. If I drive to My Kids place in Wi. About 120 miles. I can use a half quart of oil if I drive a steady 65 all the way. Just driving around town 50 and under I use a lot less.

If your car is in nice mechanical shape, you should be able to drive your '51 Chevrolet anywhere at 60 to 65 MPH. I drive my '51 at those speeds on the freeway with no problem.
