Like Mike says, contact Vintage Services as they will provide what they have in writing for you.

Do you know roughly what year it is? I have various GM Canada parts manuals and can give you some basic info...

My book tells me it is a 1938 Master deluxe 2 passenger coupe.
That would be a model 1017 and their serial numbers ran from 8101700068 and up.

Serial number broken down-
8=1938
1017=model
00068 produnction number for that model began with this number.

The engine numbers for 1939 ran from 1288951-1997876. I don't have the engine numbers for 1938 but your number fits in line for previous year engines (1938) so it has a 1938 engine if that number is STAMPED on the engine .

It is either a 1938 or 1948 vehicle since the first digit in both the model and serial number is 8 and this was used in 1938 and 1948.

It looks like you might have a mistake copying the serial number and perhaps the model number.

The serial number has one more digit than Chevrolet used in Canada prior to 1955. Please check - either the 4th or 5th digit in the sequence looks like it doesn't belong.

Also please recheck the third digit of the model number.

If you can confirm and re-post the serial and model numbers I can help to decode. Tom

Chevgene - looks like we were both answering at the same time.

I agree that the engine sequence and color code are right for 1938, but the model 8-10-07 is not a right since there was no 07 model in 1938 (likely was a 17, but 07 would be right for a 1948 coupe I believe)

Similarly, if the 5th digit was removed from the serial number it would become a 1938 model 17 business coupe. Tom

1948 does not have a 801017 model
The club coupe Fleetmaster in 1948 was a 811027

I see a 8-10-07 listed in the Canadian parts catalogue as a "Coupe - Dynamic 2 Door".

I'm not very familiar with 1948 models but since that this is the model designation listed by the poster I thought that it is a possibility. The 571-A catalogue that I have does not list model names, only the series as in the 2nd and 3rd digits of the code.

Thank you everyone for the help so far! I am going to contact the gentleman you guys suggested. I looked up how to do a image upload but I have no website to do an original upload.

My dad passed a month ago and we are selling the car. My mom won't drive it. We aren't sure if it's something a local gm meusum would want being canadian made and needing work done. We hit so many road blocks from local people telling us it's a Ford. However after I show them serial stamp they stop arguing with me. I will include the URL to the auction Photos. The coupe is yellow...closer to the bottom of the pictures. The auction Photos have a picture of the serial numbers plate.

Paint Code 807 relates to Ensign Blue in 1938 colours.

That is going to be one heck of an auction!! I can't believe we're talking about that '38 street rod when there's that '59 Vette there! chevy

We farmed for 30 + years. Dad passed suddenly in February and my mom and I can't carry on with out him. We are completely liquidating.
He enjoyed driving his vet. We bought it for him for his 50th birthday. ( He would have been 60 in June). It's a 60 ( I was too cheap to get him a 59) however the numbers don't match. A man a few concessions over has the matching numbers engine. He put it in a ice cream truck. I found another motor and we had it completely off body restoration. Runs amazing however has no power steering and mum has a hard time to handle it.

We kept his 53 mercury (all original event the paint) that I will drive and my mum is keeping my 66 stang to drive. Our biggest issue is storage. Only room for two when we rent the barns out.

Thanks for letting me share guys. My husband doesn't get old cars and there aren't many local clubs accepting young woman who love older cars and learning history about them.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Good to see the car bug carried on to you.
I could smell the shop when browsing the pictures. Very nice.
Where are you in Ontario?

I am sorry to hear about your Dad. I also find it disturbing that local car clubs didn't provide a welcome comfortable atmosphere for you and all visitors. Here at our show in town we strive to make sure everyone is welcome and feels that way.

Our Southern Ontario Region has toured through Delhi and Jarvis a couple of times the past few years. A beautiful area of the country...
