I have 2 engines I would like to identify, both are V8.
The first I believe to be a 307 but due to its position I can only read part of the cast number between the gearbox face and left rear cylinder that being 391468 (could be 3914636). It has a cast iron inlet with 2 barrel carb and oil filler through the timing case.
The second I can read all numbers 3914636 in front of gearbox and on the rhs A 30
A
O N
I have not seen the manifold for this engine.
The main numbers could be the same for both engines but the first is stored with other parts partially covering the area.
Any help is appreciated
Tony

You may also want to find the stamping number as well...

Thank you for that information, it confirms my suspicion. After the original post I dug the 1st engine from under the pile of parts and it has the same casting number as the second. I was more interested in the size than the year.
