I own a 1929 2dr sedan AC International model. The car was last restored in the mid 80's. Also in the package is an original parts car body with frame and short block. The car runs and drives well but as you can imagine the paint is cracking and peeling sparsley on the entire body. It has 99200 miles on it. Not certain where I'm going with the car or whether I will have restored or sell as is. I would appreciate some input.

It really depends on what you like to do or want to try. We go on many VCCA tours. It is an opportunity to enjoy and display a old Chevy while showing the general public a piece of history. They don't have to be a 100 point restoration. Or you can take to a car show and get frustrated because it doesn't receive the recognition you expect. Or just keep it in the garage and have mama get more upset each day that her car either has to share space or rest outside.

The real value is what you get out of it. Either in joy and appreciation or $$$$. I prefer the former. My heirs can worry about the other.

iagree Two of my cars were painted in 1980, the other one long before that. They still look "nice" and I still get complements on them, but the reason I have them is I love to drive them and they make me happy! carbana Do what makes you smile!!

The real fun of owning it is always the drive. A well maintained car you hook up the battery , check the oil and water, test the brakes and off you go, even if its only a 20 mile round trip.

If that excites you and you enjoy it and look forward to the next time, keep the car .

If not wave bye bye to your baby and let it go to somebody else who is looking for that same feeling.

I was kind of discouraged when I sat down and found this site. After being on here for some time this evening I feel a little better about the car and it's future. I have to say, there is a pile of useful knowledge and help here. Thanks to all who contribute. This car is the first new car that my grandfather sold as a chevy dealer. He kept an eye on it and eventually bought the car from the original owner and restored it. When he bought it in 1955 the car had 46000 miles on it. Today it has 99200 miles. Grandpa and grandma toured the nation in this car with the longest trips being to texas and georgia for Glidden tours from northern NY. It would of been difficult to sell it let alone the feelings of guilt that I had just thinking of selling it.

If you take your time and read the owner's, repair manuals you will learn a bunch about the car. Don't try to make understand it too complicated. It is basically a simple machine. They were built to be repaired along side the road or under a shade tree. Be careful not to be swayed by anyone under 50 years old. Be cautious about accepting advise to upgrade or modernize it. As your grandfather knew they are very reliable vehicles are relatively roadworthy. Besides they are a blast to drive particularly with all the thumbs up, waves and smiles you receive.

Come back often with questions or problems. If you take it on a VCCA tour I can almost guarantee it will be running better and you will understand it better when the tour is over. There are some top notch mechanics that can't wait to help others.
