I'm about to install seat belts in my 55 Belair. Are there stronger areas of the floorboard where I should drill the holes?
Thanks,
Sid

If you find a 1956 or 1957 accessory installation manual it will show you the recommended place to drill the holes.

In looking at my 1957 accy. man. the holes are drilled 10 1/4" to the front of the rear seat riser....That is the raised part of the floor under the rear seat cushion. The inner holes are 25" from the outter edge of the door sill and the outter holes are 6 1/4".

I bought a 55 accessory installation manual, and it doesn't cover seat belts. Guess I better get one for 56.
I'd like to have 3 point installation, but my 55 is a hardtop, so I don't have a B pillar.

Thats because seat belts were not available in 1955.
I posted the measurements.
They didn't have the sholder harness in 1956 as modern cars had. They did have a much better dual harness available that is much better. That will be in the 1956 manual also.

The 56 accessories manual has not been reprinted (that I know of).

New to Chatter so here goes a question in regards to 55 Chevy 4 door Sedan seat belts. Previous owner installed front belts which are too short and don't have a retractor. Does anyone on Chatter have a recommendation for the best type of belt? I have looked at all the styles on line offered by many companies. I like the retractable type for the front bench seat. Are there any pros or cons from anyone on this type of belt for a 55?

What type of belt did you install and if you like them, could you share? Going to install in mine but not sure the best type in regards to belt size, etc. Thanks, Terry
