Hi Everyone from Bonnie Scotland......I am new to the Chevrolet scene and am asking for some positive identification pointers for a 1942 or 1945 art deco 1 1/2" tonne truck.....I recently purchased this from London some months back after being imported into UK from USA last year...
Name plate tag inside engine bay cowl...9MS39 serial number 19901,,supplied documentation from Kansas has a VIN number of 3835309and is registered in 1945.....
Engine has no ID on raised block behind distributor..
235 is cast into oil sump pan suggesting the 235 Cu inch 3.9 litre engine and not the 216 cu inch...
Distributor is a Delco remy Model 1110090 serial 5B2.....
This has the original 6 volt battery and gen set up...
I am also looking to restore to original and have already contacted Jim carter truck parts and Chevys of the 40s
Regards Andy Collier

The raised numbers. 3835309, is the casting number for a 1948-1949 235 engine.
The 1942-1947 235 engie ad a 3835335 casing number. There were a number of improvements made in the 1948 engine although most gaskets are the same.
MS is a 1942 160 inch wheel base 1 1/2 ton truck.
1110090 is a number for 1941-1948 distributor, 216 or 235. The 5B2 = Made the 5th day of Feb., 1942.
The lack of and engine number being stamped indiactes a new replacement block was installed some time after 1948. The 1948 block was sold for replacement for the 1941-1949 235 after that point.
9M indicates the truck was assembled at the Norwood, Ohio plant.

Welcome to the Chat Laddie! I'm a wee tad scott, too. Check out Tim Tygart's Obsolete Chevy Parts Co. @ www.obschevy.com for some o' ye parts. Also: Hemmings Motor News has a full listing o' vendors for your old gal. While the chat can help you with anything you come against, I think it be wise to get a copy of Chevrolet Car and Truck by Page from www.AbeBooks.com reproduction copies from about $30.00 range U.S. Shop Repair Manual and parts list book "Master Parts Price List" are also very helpful. You can get them from any of the above vendors. Most of all I wish you good luck in your restoral, aye!

Thanks Terrill...I am also trying to establish if gearbox is a 3 speed or 4 speed at present as this directly affects floor pan ordering........
I will need to identify all major parts on engine first before ordering....Engine, gearbox transmission ,rear diff etc ....Regards AndyC

All 1 1/2 ton trucks had a 4 speed. It was a rough un-syncronized afair. There should be a toggle lever and rod running down the shift lever....it is a reverse lock-out.
