The past two shows I have had my 29 Landau, I have been asked about wood grain both on the dash and also on the metal window trim. What was or was there a wood grain design on the dash and or the metal window garnish? While I know it may look better to us today, was wood grain on the original cars?

Both the instrument panel and the garnish mouldings were painted. The Belt Finishing Panel was painted Veldt Gray with a Walnut Inlay.

On your 29, does it have a wood grain finish on the window moulding or the dash board? If it does and it is period correct would you be willing to send me a couple of pictues so I can see what and where it was?

The only 1929 Chevrolet Fisher Body passenger car to have woodgraining on the window garnish mouldings was Job Number 8890 (Cabriolet). The other models had painted window garnish mouldings, and the instrument panels were painted as well.

Interesting topic in that we visited a small car show this past weekend and saw a 29 2 dr sedan and it had painted wood grained garnish moldings and dash. This thing was an original car, untouched and unrestored. It was a bit rough but all there and had black fenders, a light brown body and top but a dark brown center section between the bottom and the top. Cool to see an original, untouched car.

Interesting! According to Chevrolet paint codes ALL instrument panels and window garnish mouldings for the 1929 Coach were painted and not wood grained.

I have no idea! It is terminology that Chevrolet used to describe a certain body panel on the Convertible Landau.

I agree with you. On one hand we have one saying, "I saw an untouched original and it had wood grain" and on the other we have someone saying the color charts make no mention of wood grain.
Not sure what to think at this point. But sure would like to say with confidence, "this is the original scheme".

Research this question.....look for pictures and original cars. That will answer your question.

And.....how do we know for sure that the "untouched original" was actually a totally original car?

If your car doesn't have any woodgraining then I would go with the Chevrolet literature documentation.

Did the 31 Cabriolet come with wood grained door sills? The underside is a dark brown that would suggest they did.

Thanks

You said a untouched 2 door sedan, that aint no landau, Its by itself, and was painted, in 29 ,the only year it was made. The other cars were diff. You cannot put them in the same class. I know of a 29 landau, I will check on it, the paint on the out side as been repainted, but the interior is the org.

Ok, the person that has this landau conv. for sale sent me some pictures of the inside, but they are very dark. I can not tell for sure but it looks like at this time there might be some thing on the door. I shall go up and see for sure. I am not liking this real well. I always understood that there was no graining. That's what makes this fun and shooting your self in the foot at the same time. Roger The car is about 80 miles and I am trying to seed fall wheat at this time. So it might be a little while.
