Purchased a set of NOS front coil springs for a 48 fleetmaster.

I recieved PT# 3653059 with the white stripe on them.

The part book has that listed for 1939-41 pass.
"1939-41 all pass. (white-1310 lb.tension)
(wire diameter .576-.580)

They have 2 listings for 1940-48.
"1940-48 all pass. (blue-1600 lb.tension)
(wire diameter .608-.612)

"1940-48 all pass. (green-1375 lb.tension)
(wire diameter .585-.589)

Im assuming the "BLUE" are for some HD application.

But there is not much difference with the "GREEN"
and the "WHITE" spring.

My question is would it cause problems to put this 39-41 coil on a 48????

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!

Hellow fleetmas47,The white stripe spring was introduced in 1940,the green was in 1941. You may find that the white is a little weak for a 47.The cars were gaining a few pounds each year at that time. The only way would be to try them--those were easy springs to change. They may be OK in your lighter coupe body Chevnut (old toolman fom G.B.)and Chev. parts man from 1950_1977

I would say "Trade 'em!" You will never be satisfied with those, just knowing they are lighter weight than your original springs, you may want to have the old ones re-arched, they usually do as good as original new ones.

Gee MrMack, how do you arch a coil spring? I agree, if you can still obtain the 1375 # spring, get it, you'll be much happier with that. The 1375 # spring is what my 1951 Master Parts Catalog calls for on your '47 anyway.

Just take it over to Archey's spring shop? Really you heat them over all to a low cherry red color and when hot pull them to about 1/2 or 3/4 inches longer than original specs then quinch them in enough motor oil to cover them well and when the oil quits burning let them cool at 70*F ( hang the spring on a a-frame tie a 55# or110# anvil to the spring near the botom and hang this apparation 3/4 inch from the floor, heat till the anvil is on the floor, then remove and quinch, I thought every one knew that......

The correct "green" springs are on there way.

Seems the gentlemen I purchased them from just sent the wrong ones by accident.

Thanks for all the suggestions men!!!!!!!!!
