Actually, there is virtually no paint left. What appears gray in the above photos is caked on grime which I have gotten off yet. So it is decorated in a palette of grime, rust, and a little bare metal.

Looking good, Don! I'm sure it won't take more than another $80 or so to have it ready for judging at the Central Meet in July. Or are you going to stop here and put it in the HPOCF class? :-)

Got to see what's up with the gas tank, and the brakes. Once those two systems are squared away and functional, I'm thinking it's a natural for the 6 Cylinder Tour. Might be helpful to put the windows back in, and maybe even the windshield wipers. But all that could explode the total investment well into triple digits, so I'll have to proceed carefully... sometime soon I'll have to think about 4 beat up hubcaps, too. Hey Cousin Dale, you don't happen to have an old tired set of those from your '48, do you?

Don't think I have any old ones left. Hopefully, someone else reading this will have some old ugly ones laying around they'll give you.

ChevyGuru,

I've got three toasty hubcaps that came in a box with my '48 Fleet. You're certainly welcome to them.

If you want a pic, just let me know.

Got it, Don.

And thanks for posting here that you did so, otherwise I would've never realize I had a half dozen other PM's waiting for me! :o)

Now I realize that there's a little flag up by "My Stuff" to indicate that there are messages awaiting.

Don - glad to see you've got 3 already. I do have a hubcap that was made into a clock. That would be an interesting one to run as your 4th hubcap. :-)

"Toasty...?"...There often referred to as "Dog Dish's" on eBay... laugh Having some "rough" ones is better than having none...I wrote a post a while back how I had re-painted mine...I was so proud...Then, I realized I had painted the colors backwards...Oh well, I left them that way and no one seems to notice... laugh

"Toasty" refers to the fact that they are "tired," somewhat beat-up - as in "put a fork in it" type of meaning.

I believe it comes from "It's toast" - as in, the bread is done, and now it's toast.

"They ain't new (fresh bread) no longer."

If that is what you are asking.

Way to go man, I love these engines too and trust the reliability as noted by others above. Keeping them running is pretty basic.. there is a price to pay for the wide range of adjustability though- a rebuild is where the full impact of that statement is realized. I bet you have a great runner just keep dotting your i's and crossing t's and that thing will run a good long while. Great job and saving that old girl. I have a '48 Aerosedan.. with a 216:) Be cool, freezerburn
