Can someone please tell me how to remove the road-draft tube and canister from a 1955 265 engine? I think they are pressed in, but I don't want to apply force where I shouldn't.

There is one bolt holding the canister to the block. Remove it a jiggle the canister around a little and it should come out. The vent tube is pressed in and I would not remove it unless necessary. The canisters often filed with sludge.

if the road draft tube is beyond use, a repo is available from gary pronesti. if you need his contact info, email me and i'll look it up. as gene stated, leave the original in place unless it's not usable. removing the tube usually destroys it. good luck, mike

Thanks guys. I'll leave the tube alone. I am curious though about the disc in the block at the top end of the draft tube. It looks like a convex freeze plug. What is its purpose? Is it there to facilitate the installation of the tube at the factory?

It plugs a hole that was necessary for connecting the vent. can and the road draft tube if I remember correctly....That system was used in 1955 only. Changed in 1956 due to the new full flow oil filter.
