The metal sockets were made by Tom Smiley many, many years ago. He had a lot of great reproduction parts back then. Unfortunately, when he died years ago his parts died with him. As far as I know, no one since then has reproduced the metal sockets.

Vintage and classic reproductions here in Queensland make 2 different door sockets one threaded and one press fit. Part numbers UNI-015 and UNI-016

Hey Jack, I've looked a Glen's sockets and they are not correct for over here in the US. I know of a guy, and Skipper knows him also, that made some years ago. I have been trying to get the tooling from him for years.

Brucie: Are you talking about Tom Smiley? If so, his daughter had all of the tooling and I have heard that she won't let anything go.

Hi Bruce. Could it be possible then to modify them to suit ??? .

I know that the treaded socket is actually made out of brass, and can be turned down in diameter. 5/8" thread. ?? just some more ideas.

Nice looking parts and i may contact him on one of the two numbers. The UNI-015 appears very similar to the one in the 1932 experi-metal 1932 repo body catalogue....part #1458. Unfortunatly 29--32 parts in ohio no longer has any.

Also looking for a pair of 29--36 open car door latches. Filling Station no longer has these.

I had to increase the diameter of the head on the sockets for my 39 roadster. I did that by silver brazing a brass washer under the existing head , and then turning it down in the lathe, leaving a bigger diameter head with the same radius.

Hi Jack, yes your right. You would need to add material to make it look right.

Mike, look for the latches from the model A guys....they were used on the 31 2-door Phaeton. They are not cheap....last I knew they sell for like $135 each.

WOW....at $35 each from the auzzie guy i could buy all 4 for $140.00, must be silver or gold plated on the Model A ford.

I found some listed at part # A--180620 for 1933--1937 ford roadsters and phaetons, $8.50 each with a square receiving pocket with rounded corners. These were from Lebaron bonney.

See if i can find those 31 ford phaeton 2 door style door latches.
I have a pair that came with my roadster but the striker part of the latches is worn on the angle to one side on each. Was not sure if these could be safely made square again.

thanks Bruce.

mike
