I found a 6 cylinder GM, but which is it?
The side of the block has 3733950 . There was a tag attached to the engine block , that was in a wooden crate. The tag has 3707737 and 261 stamped on it. Has front engine mount on the front plate behind the timing gears. The timing gear is the metal one.Debating whether I can use the engine in my 53 210 4dr sedan with powerglide - 235 original set up. Appreciate the information.

3733950 is 1954 261 engine. It could be used in a 1953 PG car but it must have the provision on the sides of the block for attacing your 1953 side motor mount brackets. It will also have solid lifters which make a Power Glide car sound awful funny.click-click;click

Thanks a lot. I noticed it had what looks like rivits or plugs where my motor mounts fasten on the block ,but no threded holes.Do those come out or have to be drilled and threaded?

Thanks a lot, but can you tell me more? I'm trying to decide if I want to try to buy the block and adapt my 235 parts to it. it is only a short block. Can it be done ? I have a 53 with a 235 solid lifter engine with insert rods.It is a 53 Canadian Motor out of a 53 1/2 ton truck.Standard three on the tree.
Thanks for any advice.

Guess the Canadian motor threw you off.
Can the 261 be adapted with parts from a 235 Chevrolet 53 Belair sedan engine? I have several motors in my garage.
