I would guess between 50 and 100. There are three in our Region. There have been ~ 15 at a Middle West Meet in the past.

Mike, you should know better than to ask if there is a fire truck club. There is a club for every thing. Cars, toys, antiques, etc. How are things going down your way?

The best known fire truck club is:
Society for the Preservation & Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus of America. SPAAMFAA for short.

I was a member from 1989 through 1996. In 1996 I was a member of over 12 clubs and dropped out of all except 5, SPAAMFAA is one I dropped out of.

Ronald,
Welcome to the Chevy Fire Truck Owners of the VCCA. Not an official group, chapter or region. Just a bunch of people who appreciate those old working vehicles. When we bought ours many many years ago we discovered that kids and firemen can't ignore an old Fire Truck.

Where are all these Fire Trucks? I have been to all but two Anniversary Meets, about 40 Central Meets, and Several Middle West Meets. I have never seen more than three or four and they are the same ones all the time. I have never seen one on our Early Six Cylinder Tour.

I just brought home a 1939 Chevy fire truck today. It's a sad story, the truck has been outside for about 15 years. It has the open cab so the weather has taken it's toll.
I also have a 1941 Chevy former fire truck, closed cab, but all apparatus was removed before I got it. Nice truck though.

Our '31 Fire truck has been to several Middle West Meets, on many Southern Spring Tours but never to the Central Meet or the Eastern Six Cylinder Tour. Several of the Middle West Meets have had Fire Trucks. If my memory is correct there were 11 (includes auxiliary fire vehicles) at one MWM.

Chip, I guess my 1941 Chevy/Buffalo Fire Truck was counted some months or years ago.....anyway:
I just was noticing that the VCCA Firetruck Forum has 14 threads and 78 hits/comments. It seems we aren't presenting ourselves to the general membership properly. Maybe we should try to do away with all the "car" nonsence (sp?)and put our efforts where it would make the most impact or maybe the VCCA should thro in with SPAMFFA or whatever they call themselves, especially where green fire trucks are concerned. My '32 could be a pretty good red fire chief's car.

You are absolutely right. Mike will not get any solution by asking here and there. Search for the proper club.

You guys with Fire Engines need to bring them out!

I believe there were two Fire Engines at Flint, my 1957 and a 1927. I drove mine 650 miles to be there...

As a side note, this years Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament "Fire Engine" was modeled after my truck. which served in Fredericksburg, PA from 1957 to 1995.

Happy Holidays!

Mike B :)

I've got a '53 Chevrolet 6400 Fire Truck. The fire apparatus was built by Darley. I purchased it 5 years ago and it was in service up to the week I bought it. It has 16,000 miles on it. Don

I have a 1936 1 1/2 Ton chassis with a Luverne Fire Apparatus body and Waterous PTO driven pump. Was playing on this very truck when I was about 8, set off siren and was banned from fire dept forever. Waited 50 years and bought the truck. Restored it and have been driving in many southern spring and fall tours. Just got back from middle west meet in Emporia, Kansas, was one other truck there, '27 model.

I've never owned a fire truck but admire every one I see. So many small towns kept the old ones around for parade duty, pampering them to death. And since they were driven a few times a month, they racked up almost no mileage. One of my favorite local trucks:

I am looking for a fire truck in good condition built between 1929 and 1934. Does anyone have any ideas. Since I am a VCCA virgin, I am not sure if this is even the correct way to find this venicle.
Thank you,
Tom

Fire Trucks come up every once in a while. Don't get in a hurry and something will be available. A while back there was a '29 or '30 in Texas. Am not on the computer that might have the information. Or you can do a search on here and see if the particulars will show up.
