I am looking for information on how the radiator stone guard is attached to the chrome shell on my 1931 Chevy 5 passenger coupe. I have the guard but there are no holes in the shell to fasten it. Are there special fasteners or bolt used? Does anyone have a picture that they could provide me with? Any information would be useful.

The top of the stoneguard attaches to the radiator shell via where the Chevrolet Bow Tie emblem is located. The Chevrolet emblem is removed. Anyway, for detailed instructions and illustrations on how to install the 1931 Chevrolet stoneguard, you need to purchase the complete set (12 issues) of the 1931 Chevrolet Service News from the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. The February, 1931 issue gives all of the information needed on how to install the accessory stoneguard.

i have a 1931 Chevy Radiator Stone Guard,but the part where the emblem gose its missing do you know where i can get it?

I have a stone guard but no hardware.
I'm going to have it re chromed ,then find the right brackets to install it.
You said to get all 12 service manuals.
Why all. 12
Is it complicated?

On my 30 there are two clips that are pressure fit in the headlight wire holes of the the radiator shell. No extra holes are needed. Also, there are rubber bumpers to maintain an even space between the stone guard and radiator shell.
The stone guard was an after market accessory on the 1930, not a GM option.

They are not manuals. The 1931 Chevrolet Service News was a monthly issue and it was a detalied newsletter from Chevrolet. The Chevrolet Service News is only available as a complete set of 12 and you can purchase the 1931 Service News from the Filling Station. www.fillingstation.com

Believe me - if you have a 30-31 you should have a copy of all the Service Bulletins. Excellent reading and informaiton you will find in each and every one .... I also ordered the set of the 1930's as well they were so informative.

The bike is a 1980 Harley FLH. I'll be selling it in the spring,at 72 I don't get to ride much anymore. I take the Chevy out instead.

Great photo lot Jack. To further clarify, photo of back of rad screen shows the 2 piece tombstone shaped part that is first placed in radiator shell and secured from front through a circular washer with 2 small flathead screws.

Thanks for the pics. I now can see what I need.
All I have right now is a screen that needs new chrome, and a very old Chevy badge that I probably should replace as well.
I don't have anything else.
Are these parts available?

I couldn't find the piece that is soldered to the screen that holds the emblem so I made one. If you replace the emblem, try to find one with the round prong on the back plus the other narrower prong to keep the emblem from rotating (like the one in the picture). A lot of emblems have a stud soldered on the back which is for mounting direct to the radiator shell (no screen). To have the enamel badge restored contact www.MaxwellEnamels.com

Someone suggested using 3M double sided molding tape cut to match profile of badge, to fit badge to backing plate. I tried it and it works perfectly, and also allows relatively easy removal using care.

Just a note on double sided tape it works great-but to remove the emblem once it's on with the tape, use thin nylon fishing line and some mineral spirits-worked to take the emlems off my C5 Corvette without damaging the finish.

I have included the link to the installation intructions contained in the 1931 CSN , the install desribed is for retro fitting the radiator screen to cars not originally fitted with one from the factory. The upper attachment fitting is a "one sided fitting, and the lower attachment is also described as using Blind nuts ( one sided nuts like "RivNuts").
The easiest parts to re-fabricate are the factory install parts , as they are basically flat plates with holes drilled and screwed.
