Can a 292 C. I. engine be fitted into either a 41 or a 50 car. Does anyone know of this being done and how much trouble it would be. monkey

I know where I can get a rebuilt one and was wondering why not put the top of the line six into one of the 41 or the 50. Just toying with the idea of that and a 3:55 rear end so I can run with the big boys out on the interstate. It's a little nutty, I'll admit. But wouldn't that be a hoot! laugh devil

This forum is about RESTORING to ORGINAL condition Chevrolets. Not RESTO RODS or Streetrods or Customs or Lowriders. Please get with the program. imsorry I had to do that !!!

Any motor will go into a 41 Chevy, it's just a matter of how much beating and welding you're gonna have to do. You need to move on the right side of the mountain for more information.

Charlie.....What you need to do is to take that old 41 convertible body you got and stick a big OUTBOARD motor on the back and run it up and down the river, that way you will be sure to get a ride in it...Oh yea make sure you caulk it real good after all those welds.....ED

I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED

East Ed and Steve,
Y-all are something else, you know that!? Anyhow, it more than likely won't happen anyway.

And, Steve, you're a good one to talk, what with that souped, green machine of yours.

Steve, a word of caution: Owing to recent comments in Chatter, best be careful offering concerns regarding restoring to original vs. rods, customs, modifications and such. An example of the latter has recently been featured in, of all places, the G&D. Nothing seems to kindle the fires of opposing views quicker. You know.

250 would be the better choice. Shorter stroke means more RPMs. With seven main bearings it would be a smooth running engine.

My car is correct, orginal and has no repo parts made in China. The color is orginal too. I think the gas in the tank is 1938 gas.The color was only offered to Tennessee residents. It's worth a fortune. Are you believing any of this?

If you go over to the Stovebolt site, you will see threads where people have done that in trucks. The issues to be solved are very similar only in the case of a car, there are probably more parts like custom mounts that are made for the job and available to buy.

Charlie, why do an ole inline six with old fuel ignition and innards? Why not just go first class and install a modern 4.2 inline six from a Chevrolet Trailblazer with all the modern ignition and fuel injection stuff?
But if you insist the 292 can be showhorned into any car from a 1912 Chevrolet to a 54 Chevrolet. I once heard a hotrodder say, ANY engine can be fitted to ANY Car!

MrMack,
I didn't even know they made such a critter as a 4.2 inline six. Wow! Now that would really be something. Agrin

I doubt I'll ever put anything in one of mine stouter than a 261. I do have a friend that has a rebuilt 292 that I could get at reasonable price (as yet undetermined) and just thought about how that would be nice. I don't think that it'd slip in as easy as a 235 or 261 (already have both), though. Seems it won't. devil

I wonder if the 261 is the stoutest one that will bolt up to the bell housing, without modification? idea

It'd be so sweet to blow by Steve with his souped-up (235), dressed-up (chromed-out), eye-popping (ever seen a picture of it?) 38 hood and leave him thinking he's standing still. Oh, yeah! I think a 261 with triple-carbs, split manifold and 3:55 could do that nicely. Oh, joy, joy, joy! He, he! nanana

Thanks to all that have responded so far,

So, are we to believe that you have gotten over the funk and are busily putting together your '41 convertible? Is that 261 with triples and split a standard option for 1941? wink

Yep, that ole 235 is really souped up. 216 intake/exhaust manifold with 216 carb and a PCV valve sym. That should really make it go. Of course it has two extra fuel filters !!! monkey
