My 41 Chevy Special Deluxe has a block Casting Number of F0905A just behind the distributor and has 4 screws that hold the valve cover to the head, one in each corner. Anyone know what engine year this is?

If you are looking up information, that is actually not a casting number but more of a production number. That number will probably yield some information for you.

The casting numbers are cast in and are raised not stamped. There will be one on the block and one on the head. They will give you some more information on what you have.

F = engine made at Flint plant
0905 + month and day engnie was built (Sept 5)
A = 235 stick shift passenger car engine
does not indicate year as this code was used from 1957-1962.
As mentioned you will need the casting number which is behind the starter and starter must be removed to see.
If the valve cover is removed the type of rocker arm shaft oil connector will determine if it is a 1958 or older engine or a 1959 or newer,
If the side push rod cover is removed and an oil line is seen (lower to the rear) its a 1957 or older engine.
