My new safety glass did not come with the markings. Being now installed I am trying to find a way to mark the glass while on the car. You don't need to tell me " you should have done it first, stupid ". Are decales available or some sort of acid etch system out there? I bet ( not 10,000 ) one of you will have a good sugestion.

I looked for a Logo etch kit several years ago and it seems the only ones available are for Ford...I had my new glass made at Vintage Glass in Tolland Conn. and they had someone who duplicated my 38 Chevy Logo (I sent them my old glass) and etched it into the new glass..came out pretty nice..might call and ask for Todd (not sure he still works there)..maybe they offer kits now??/ Billu38

Yes the logos can be put on after the glass is installed. It takes a stencil and sand blasting. It will be necessary to protect surrounding parts from the sand. It only takes a light pass (depending on sand grade used) to etch the glass.

There is also an acid etch (hydrogen fluoride [HF]) that you don't even want to think of doing. HF is extremely hazardous and can be absorbed in fatal quantities or severely damaging to the skin and internal tissue. Like many hazardous chemicals they can be handled safely if you have the right knowledge and equipment.

Why do you want to do this in the first place???....Are you trying to fool someone???...Are you ashamed to have new glass??? Am I missing something here???..
My 38 has the original factory installed glass and the Markings are hard to see...So who's looking.....ED

Well, we all have different ideas and goals about the old car hobby. Some have very modified cars some have drivers and some go for restored to original. I have one of each so can relate to all. This particular car I am trying to make it appear as it did on the show room floor in 1938 when new. It certainly has some repo parts but where possible I restore the original part. It's just my thing right now that I am doing as a challange to me to do the best I can. Next year I may drop a V-8 in the coupe. I am 65 and still like challanges, keeps me going. Still can't spell. To each his own. You asked didn't you.

Most areas have artisans who do glass etching. Call a art & craft supply house and ask if they know of anyone in your area. Like Chip said they'll make a stencil and small sand blaster to do the etching.

In 2004/2005? AAA, in Michigan, set up theft ID stations to mark car serial numbers on auto glass. It was free and all glass surfaces could be etched. In an impulsive moment I had all my windows etched using the 49 engine serial number that my 1941 car was registered under. The whole process was done chemically. It is almost impossible to see the etchings. I assume you should be able to have this process duplicated. Some type of tape is used to place the numbers/letters on the car and a chemical is then placed over the stenciled on letters that etches in the numbers/letters.
Good luck, Mike

This sounds so cool. I need to find out more about it. Will contact AAA first.
Thanks
