You need to provide us with more information, condition, photos, etc. The value depends on the condition. That includes mechanical, paint, upholstery, top, body wood, sheet metal. It is probably worth either accepting offers (expect that most will be far below actual value), have a knowledgeable appraiser give a value or post a passel of photos on one of the free sites and then let people know where they are. A 1932 Cabriolet is a very collectable car and desired by many old Chevy guys.
If you care about what happens to the car then you must be careful who you sell it to. A true restorer will not take a good solid car and make a street rod out of it. Many will tell you what they think you want to hear just to be able to get another project. In general VCCA members are dedicated to restorations not rods. _________________________ How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

Here is a photo from Ponto................ This will help, but more is needed. Does it run? Are you selling, or buying? Roger

That looks like the type of vehicle that you should put new tires on, get it running, and go touring with it. You will not have any more fun with it after years of work and $$$$$$$. Enjoy.

Man, that is a great looking car. As Back Roads suggested, you need to keep the car, get it running, and enjoy it! That would be a very nice car to have fun with just as it is. After looking at the aftermarket radiator cap that is on the car, I was reminded that years and years ago I think that I saw the car in a magazine or a newspaper. I believe it was a story about your aunt buying the car new and etc. At any rate, I sure remember that radiator cap on a '32 cabriolet in a magazine or newspaper story. This will help, but more is needed. Does it run? Are you selling, or buying? Here is part of Ponto's original post from September 7th: "I have inherited a 1932 Chev Cabriolet, my great aunt bought new and owned until her passing in 1980. She never had a ticket or an accident and was awarded for this by AAA. The car has been garaged since her passing and unfortunately sitting on the tires. I had hoped to restore but have pretty much decided I will need to sell. Has anyone got a suggestion on how to price this?"

I remember the article as well. It may have been in a local newspaper, then reprinted in the G&D.

I saw a 32 cabriolet sell on ebay for $11,000. While it was a basket case there was some newly chromed parts and a hamden coach interior kit ($5800) that came with the car. On the other hand several relatively recently restored cabiolets have not met a reserve of $28000. I would hope you could get something around $15000 assuming the wood is in decent shape, the title is clear, and it can be made to run. I am no expert on value but have been restoring one for years and years. Any questions feel free to contact me at delongx@msn.com Jim

Thanks to all of you for your comments. Yes, this story was featured in magazines and on TV and used as a filler for when news was slow for a long time. The hood ornament is a devil thumbing his nose to the world and that was my Great Aunt's attitude. She had plenty of that. I don't know if it is a "runner" yet as it has sat in my parents garage for about 20 years. But it was driven from Auburn to Reno when she passed away so my guess is that it would't take too much to make it go. I will work on that. Still deciding whether to sell or fix up, kind of afraid of the cost and what I might be getting myself into.

Still deciding whether to sell or fix up, kind of afraid of the cost and what I might be getting myself into. I strongly suggest that you keep the car and enjoy it. As far as the cost goes, if you keep the car as is other than doing some maintenance before the car is driven and installing new tires, the cost shouldn't be that expensive. To give you an example, I have an all original 1932 Special Sedan. It sat in a barn for 20 years before I purchased the car and then it sat in my shop for another 37 years. I did some maintenance on the car last year like changing the oil, topping off the rear end and transmission, lubricating the chassis and installing newer tires. Fired the car up and drove it!! You can do the same. Your great aunt's cabriolet is too nice to restore so you need to leave it just as it is and drive it. Besides, with the past history of the car and your great aunt you really need to keep the car in the family! I would sure think twice about selling it.

I agree. Keep it, have fun. It will become (already is) an important heirloom.

I'm a newbie to the forum but,The Dog is barking up the RIGHT tree! Keep it! I bought my '31 2 door coach 10 years ago. It had been sitting in a barn for 40+ years. After 3 years of "maybe next week", I had it up and running in a week with practically no expense. With my upcoming order of parts from FS, my total investment will be under 5 grand for a running piece of automotive history, and that includes the $3400 purchase price! Just remember to enjoy the time working on it and don't let it frustrate you. In my opinion, half the fun is working on something that is twice as old as I am!
