I have a '57 cameo with a 265 cid, and I want to paint the engine the original color. Should it be gray ?

Yes, the base truck engines were gray from 1955 up into the '60's.

gene, is that the same dark blue-grey, as used on the sixes from the filling station or chevs of the '40's, or some other grey?.. epi

Its the same color although most you see use a medium gray.
