I was looking at ebay and saw a grey 48 convertible for sale. Seller wants 52k for it. Looks like it is a very nice car. It is well accorissoried and I couldn't see anything to gripe about.

What prompts this post is this: Has anyone ever put the Fleetline chrome on a Fleetmaster? I think it would look really nice, especially with the skirts with chrome strips as well.

Anyone know the owner of this car?

I did see that the car had the cascades below the taillights. Seems that those were for the Fleetline only or did I misread back when we were talking about those little foo-dads?

If you check out the Chevybombs website, you'll see lots of nice '48's with additional Fleetline trim. Also lowered to the ground... and with a Fulton.

Years ago at a VCCA meet in Wisconsin, there was a gentleman that pulled in with a slightly customized (split manifold 235) '48 Fleetmaster convertible. It was black, and the owner installed the Fleetline 'speed line' trim on the car. I gotta say, it was BEAUTIFUL. I wish Chevrolet put them on there originally, or at least made the convertible in the Fleetline series. It looked like a baby Cadillac!

The only way the car you described could have been more beautiful was for it to been clothed in the outside wood trim package.

Why in the world didn't Chevrolet know this and make it an option for 47/48 is beyond me. After all, the war had ended and things were looking up for prosperity and a car in every garage as Hoover had visioned.

Although, I don't know what happened to the company that made the wood kits, I imagine their demise would not have been so soon if Chevrolet had sanctioned its product making it available through the dealers as an option. A better and wider market would have reduced the cost and availability of the kits, I suspect.

Why don't you look into the situation with the mind set of producing the kits.

It can't be that hard and you could ask your price.

Maybe you could lbuy the rights and patterns from them and any tools they may have. A few trees and you could be wintering in Nice , a-sipping pina caladas whilst sunning on the sand or under a HUGE beach umbrella.

Think about it. Where is the old pioneering spirit? Get some of your well-heeled buddies out there to back you.

I'm pretty sure that these kits are being reproduced. It used to be a rare site to see one. Now it seems that there are 3 or 4 different cars always on Ebay sporting them. A quick way to take 15grand onto the selling price of a car it seems...

At one time I'd thought of adding Fleetline chrome to my Fleetmaster...
After seeing the results I'm glad I didn't...I like the cleaner look...
Besides, what would possess someone to drill all those fricking holes...
And, definitely forget the Fulton on a convertrouble...!

I totally agree about the Fulton on a convertible. Nonetheless, I'm not surprised given the blind love some have for the things (Fultons).

As to the extra chrome, there is something to be said about the "clean" look but I wood add the chrome and the wood in a heartbeat if I had a 47/48. That would include the skirts which would be a must.

Kinda like the fender skirts...To bad modern made one's don't fit properly...I don't like the chrome because the strips are too wide...Too fat to agree with my idea of stylish...Besides, someone in the "know" might think I'm driving a Fleetline, heaven forbid, and not notice it just says Chevrolet on the trunk, not Fleetline.

And, if I was to add a visor...? It wouldn't be a Fulton...Seems to be that nearly everyone uses that butt ugly thing...I have a Stainless steel Pecket model hidden away...I bring it out on occasion and hold it up to admire it's beauty, but quickly put it away, lest my hands become "tainted"... smiles...

Wood siding is also nice to admire on someone else's car...I prefer the long, clean and unbroken sleek look that the designer's intended you to see...IMO

Pretty much in other words...? Just leave the darned thing alone...
