Hi all,
I am looking at a 2000 S-10 2WD with a 4.3 engine, automatic tranny, extended cab tomorrow.
Is there anything specific I should look or lookout for? Please help.
Joe
Joe, I have a 2003 S10 extreme extended cab with 4.3, just hit 120,000 km's or about 90,000 miles. Mine is totally rust free as it gets treated 2 times a year with Crown Rust Control. The $125 charge is cheaper than replacing or repairing rust. Last winter was its first being driven in the winter, usually just sat in driveway or in garage .
Ones I see with rust 1998---2003 body style , are heavy around rear of cab corners, bottom of doors, bottom of front fender, bottom of tailgate, around wheelwell on bed.
Its got a very long 2 piece driveshaft and you use special needle tip type fittings to grease the U-joints on the driveshaft. If you don't be prepared for a large hit to your wallet. All other front end stuff gets greased every oil-filter change.
If your even remotely thinking about driving it in the winter you will need 300 pounds directly over the rear wheels and snow tires , otherwise it will not move on flat ground.
The 4.3 is a dog at 180 hp and cannot get out of its own way and gas mileage is brutal !!!!!!!!. Use a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in the tank every fill up to keep the injectors flowing and better mileage. Lately I have been considering installing a chev v8 , the new LS series 327.
