I have a 38 street rod that I bought in 1996. The car never had side view mirrors and with a panoramic rear view mirror I was fine. As I get older, I can't turn my neck like I used to and need to finally add mirrors. Does anyone have a recommendation for side view mirrors....I do not want to use those cheap clamp on mirrors. Thanks

Anything other than clamp on will require drilling holes. I've seen a lot of modified cars use the clamp on mirrors. Just find one you like the look of and put it on. I have seen some cars with hinge mount mirrors but I have no idea where they got them.

Finding the best side mount mirrors and figuring out the location on these cars is a lot trickier than you might think.

As Tiny noted, if you don’t go to a clamp on you will probably have to mount something on the front cowl.

A hinge mount mirror works ok on the driver’s door. The one on the passenger door will probably be blocked by the windshield pillar and door frame.

I have the clamp on mirrors on both sides of my 38 Master. They are not the ones that fit at the top but they mount part way down the front edge of the door. The hard part was finding one for the passenger side that would adjust inward enough to be useful. I would have preferred a wide angle one for the passenger side but I couldn't find one.

I don't know about the pin diameter but there a lots available hinge mount mirrors for the old fords. They might work.

I used a wide angle clamp-on for the passenger side of my "37. Even then it was tricky finding a good position on the front edge of the door. It was much higher than the driver's mirror. And it barely turned inward far enough.

I have tried several clamp on mirrows, none of them have worked do to the tight fit of my doors agains the door opening.
I used a bolt on that a probable got from The Filling Station. I will check tomorrow.

I had to go with clamp on ones on my 41. As others have said there a not allot of good places to mount them so that you can see. The drivers side is ok and I have it mounted at the top corner of the door. The passengers side is in the same spot. There was no location that I could find that made it acceptable for use while driving. What I did find was that I could angle it to se the rear corner of my car. Helps with backing out of and in to the garage and parking.

The mirrors that I received were from the Filling Station. There are some of the clamp on ones that look much better than others.
