A really good way to improve the performance of your computer is by cleaning up the registry database that is in it.

Here's a story describing how various products were tested. Some were free but most cost money.

Hey Bill,

Pretty informative. Not exactly "entertaining" reading being reminded I'm paying about $3.45. But it does "prove" I'm buying at just about the lowest price in my area....

Thanks for the info.

Bill.

A Good, free Virus scanner is AVG

Just recently AVG went off the free list and they wont be doing updates for 7.5. I am now using "Avast" which I think is in the free list and it does a update each time the computer is turned on.

For many years, I've been a fan of the Microsoft "Power Toy" programs that they provide for free. Usually these were only enjoyed by techies.

Recently I was looking for a cheap way to transfer files between two hard drives - but I wanted them to synchronize - not just copy. After nearly getting snookered by some "Free" programs that had massive mandatory advertisement "hooks", I finally found this Microsoft "power toy" that works perfectly - and it's FREE.

A good (Free) program to see what components are inside your computer.

And a second one that is also Free:

Use these if you are going to add Memory (RAM) to your computer. Or if you want to see the harddrive information or the graphics card info, etc.

RE Gasoline prices.

Thanks for the posts about prices.

At Murphy (Walmart) if you use their card, you can get 3 cents off the advertised pump price. Which makes it currently 309.9 instead of 312.9 in Fayetteville, NC.

I think there is 10 cents off if you use their credit card. Or buy a couple soft drinks of some kind. I'm not so sure about the details of this part. I just use the Walmart card and keep some money on it.
