Hi there fellow Chevy fans,

I found out that my 490 has a cracked head and I'm wondering if it would be likely fixable or should I try to get a 'new' one. If the latter is the case, does anyone have an idea where I should start to look?

Who (or where) should I ask about fixing it if that's the course you recommend?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Beth,

Welcome to Chevy Chat II. Glad to have you aboard.

Let your fingers do the walking and call some of the machine shops in your area. Try to find one that has been around for a long time. Inquire of them if they can repair a cracked head or at least look at it for you and see if the break is something that likely can be fixed. Some of the old fellows like a challenge.

If it is not feasible to repair, then you will be looking for another head. Come on back here and post your request. Due to the weight of a head you would like for it to be found local and have the option of returning it if it is also cracked.

Don't give up, just hang in there.
