Does anybody know if the 207 & the 216 valve cover are one in the same?

Some 1936 207 engines used a valve cover with the same ribbed design as the 216. At a glance you would probably not notice the difference. But as Gene says, they are not the same. Previous 207 covers were smooth with the small arrow shaped vents on top.

The size of a 207 valve cover is different from the size of a 216 valve cover. My earlier post was to point out that the late 207 cover could be mistaken for the 216 cover because of similar appearance.
There might be differences in 216 covers for different years. As in oil filler cap/no oil filler cap. Someone will come along and clarify this, I am sure.
You did not say which, if either, you are seeking.

The smooth valve cover was changed to the ribbed type in mid 1936.

The 216 valve cover looked the same from 1937-1947.

In 1946, a slight change. There was a flat un-stamped hole where the oi fill would be for cars and and a opening for trucks.

In 1949 the oil fill hole was used on cars also.

I have a 1936 Chevy Master Model FA. I was curious if the Brass bracket hold down/reinforcement for 216 c.i. engine valve cover that fonz 8261 has listed in the For Sale section would work for a 207 engine

Why would you want the Brass hold down on a 36 Master?

First off I think it would be functional in helping to seal the gasket around valve cover. Theirs no way get good pressure around the edge of the cover to seal the gasket for oil leaks with two bolts coming off the top of the cover. To me it looks like a relatively easy fix for a GM engineering flaw 86 years ago. As far as the Brass hold down its kind of immaterial what the clamps are made of but I think you have to admit that the Brass thing does kind of dress it up a little. This is more of a functional kind of thing -- it's definitely would be a point deduction of the judging field. I'm not aware of anything out their like it. Are you?

You made a good point. I never thought of the fact at sealing the edge of the Cover from leaks. I would think the point deduction would very very small.

1934-36 - 25 13/16 x 5 7/8"

1937 and up - 27 x 5 5/8'

I have no idea what this attachment looks like or have never seen it in my 70 years of Chevrolet experiance,,,,,,got a picture?

I used a small amount of clear silicone caulk. If you do a clean job it doesn't show and will keep the oil in.

That would probably not work on a 1936 because the cover is wider.

I agree. A new band would have to be fabricated and probably new hold down clamps as well. Would you admit Gene that its a worth while concept?

Personally, I would rather have a leaking valve cover than to have that ugly contraption on my engine.
With all of the modern sealing materials that are available, it is hard to imagine that it would be necessary to go to such extremes to seal a valve cover.

I don't know how long it's been since I replaced the Valve Cover on my 4 Cars but none of them leak and I never put any kind of sealant on them.

I can say the same thing.

Actually, I just re-used a 60 year old valve cover gasket and I don't think it is leaking. There was no evidence of sealant between it and the cover.
