any idea on how to get a key made for a 1934 ignition switch? Is the key 1 sided or 2 sided? Can the tumblers be removed without a key? Is the door handle key the same as the ignition key? Can the 4 numbers on the key be crossed referenced to the switch?

thanks,

I don't know the answers to all your questions but the ignition key is double sided and is not the same as the door key.

My '34 ad one key for doors and ignition and one key for glove box and truck. They were all cut on two sides.

I just had the unfortunate experience of breaking my door lock key off in the lock. Of my 1935 standard series 3 window coupe. Was able to get it out with needle nose pliars. Could not find any with any locksmiths are here.

I found on my original BASCO = BRIGGS AND STRATTON key was stamped with a #12. WENT TO EBAY AND BOUGHT A PAIR of #12, $8.00, then 2 days later bought another pair. These are all blanks double sided.

pretty sure there is a pair listed on ebay by seller deankaykeyes ??? I have no idea if that's same door lock assembly for 1935 for the roadsters as its a different handle.

I elected to fill the door handle holes in door skin because the lowness of the handle looks awkward.

roadsters don't have key locks. I'm helping a friend who bought a 34. Mike the 35 should have a one sided key unless someone changed door handles. does your switch have 2 sides or one key cut?

earl......my coupe door lock has a basco briggs & Stratton double sided and key has a double edged cuts. It uses a basco #12 for 1935. Not sure where I saw it but the 34 fishered bodies use a basco #11 I think I saw written down somewhere.
I believe the outside door locking handle has a code stamped into the shaft which will allow a gm dealer or a key place to use that code to create a new key from a blank.

My 35 coupe has a Cadillac tilt and telescoping 1964-65 Cadillac steering column keyless. The roadster had some kind of non stock column in it which I trashed. There is an olds or buick 69 tilt and tele unit ready for the roadster so no idea whats stock key looks like .

Not sure if I found the info online or out of a 1929--1940 gm parts book re BASCO keys.

My first car was a '34 Master 2 door Town Sedan. Memory may
be a little fuzzy after 70 years, but I thing it was an ordinary one side cut GM key. I now own a '35 Std Coupe with
the original ign key, and it is cut on only one side. The punch-out tag is still in the key; never removed! I never had
a trunk key, so I removed it and took it to Hershey where I
Found Jessers' keys from Akron Ohio! I gav him the handle, he
found the number, and cut me a key! I works perfectly!

My literature on keys and locks shows '34 as a double sided key. '35 and newer are single sided up to the 60s.

PAUL.............the keys you have , should have makers name and a number stamped into them . In my case the door key is a BASCO #12 ( Briggs & Stratton ) which if you go further up this thread mentions an ebay seller I purchased mine from.

Somebody posted above said single sided for 1935, but that must apply to the master series, as my standard uses 2 sided. Door handles have a 4 digit number stamped into the lower casting area and also the trunk lid handle. A shop that has a GM book about keys can make a new key from that number. I had it done.
